I have wide technical interests ranging from machine learning and signal processing to language and logic. I took my undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the pioneer batch of the National University of Sciences and Technology in 1996, an MS in Computer Engineering from the Center for Advanced Studies in Engineering (CASE) in 2002, and a PhD in Computer Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore in 2012. My doctoral research focused on cardiophysiological signals for risk stratification of sudden cardiac death. Besides signal processing, I have done active research in computer vision and IoT security. I am currently working in speech and natural language processing. See my publications. I am an Associate Professor at NUST and associated with the Center of Data and Text Engineering and Mining; I also serve as adjunct faculty with the AI and NLP Research Group at MCS.

I am also a literary hobbyist with multidisciplinary interests in philosophy, science, and literature. As a translator on the Templeton Foundation grant From Conflict-Independence to Dialogue-Integration, my Urdu essays on Charles Sanders Peirce’s philosophy of science won the Urdu Science Award 2017. I have translated novels, short stories, and non-fiction anthologies. My poetry collection Shahrah-e-Shauq appeared in 2015 (Rekhta). Dubidha won the KLF 2022 best book award for Urdu prose (Sang-e-Meel). Outside the lab: distractions — including Isharaat, Mechanomorph, and Musery.
